# Test with a sandbox key

> Try your agent's payments, limits, and approvals without moving money.

A sandbox key lets your agent practice before it spends real funds. Use it to check your integration, your spending limits, and your approval flow.

## How it works

There are two kinds of agent key. The production key spends from your wallet. The sandbox key returns simulated responses, so no money moves and no credits are spent.

The sandbox applies your spending controls against a fixed 25 USDC balance. That lets you see how your agent handles limits and approvals before you fund anything.

## Get a sandbox key

**1. Open Overview**

Sign in to the [Locus dashboard](https://app.paywithlocus.com) and open **Overview**.

**2. Generate the key**

Generate a **Sandbox Key**. It sits below your production **API Key**.

**3. Give it to your agent**

Use the sandbox key in place of the production key while you test. Switch back to the production key when you're ready to spend.

| Balance | Fixed 25 USDC | Your wallet balance |

* The sandbox key works on agent endpoints before you fund the wallet, even while the wallet is still deploying.
* Sandbox responses include the header `X-Locus-Sandbox: true`.
