# Tool access requests

> Let an agent ask for a tool that is turned off, and approve or deny it.

When an agent needs a tool that is turned off, it can ask you for it instead of failing. A workspace owner or admin decides whether to turn the tool on.

> Agents: the exact contract for this feature is at [https://paywithlocus.com/agent/tools.md](https://paywithlocus.com/agent/tools.md). Start from [https://paywithlocus.com/agent/index.md](https://paywithlocus.com/agent/index.md) if you are implementing Locus.

## How it works

The agent sends a tool access request, and Locus creates an approval link. An owner or admin opens the link and approves or denies the request. Approval turns the tool on in the agent's tool set. For what the agent sees, read [Paid tool calls](https://docs.paywithlocus.com/locus-pro/paid-tool-calls.md#tool-access-requests).

  participant A as Agent
  participant L as Locus
  participant O as Owner or admin
  A->>L: Request a tool that is off
  Note over L: Creates an approval link, valid for 30 minutes
  O->>L: Open the link, then approve or deny
  L-->>A: If approved, the tool is on in the agent's tool set
```
## Approve or deny a request
**1. Open the approval link**
Sign in as a workspace owner or admin and open the link before it expires
after 30 minutes.
**2. Decide**
Approve to turn the tool on for that agent's tool set, or deny to leave it
off.
## Hide disabled tools from agents
When **Show disabled tools as requestable** is on, agents can find disabled tools and request them. To keep disabled tools out of agent search, turn off **Show disabled tools as requestable** under **Settings → Agents**.
