# Locus plugin and skills

> Install the Locus MCP connection and the three Locus skills together, or set up Locus with one prompt.

The Locus plugin gives your coding or desktop agent the Locus connection plus three skills that teach it how to use Locus well. Use it instead of a manual MCP setup when your client supports plugins. For clients without plugins, one prompt runs the Locus installer.

> Agents: the exact contract for this feature is at [https://paywithlocus.com/agent/mcp.md](https://paywithlocus.com/agent/mcp.md). Start from [https://paywithlocus.com/agent/index.md](https://paywithlocus.com/agent/index.md) if you are implementing Locus.

## How it works

The plugin is a bundle. It adds the OAuth connection to the Locus MCP server and installs the skills. Your client signs you in through the browser and stores and refreshes the tokens.

  P["Locus plugin"] --> C["OAuth connection to Locus MCP"]

  P --> S2["locus-setup: onboarding"]
  P --> S3["locus-workflows: saved processes"]
  C --> A["Your agent"]
  S1 --> A
  S2 --> A
  S3 --> A
```
| Skill | What it teaches your agent |
| - | - |
| **Locus** (`locus`) | Choose Tools and Recipes, check prices, and use results |
| **Locus setup** (`locus-setup`) | Install, sign in, and set up the account |
| **Locus Workflows** (`locus-workflows`) | Build, test, save, and run repeatable processes |
## Install the plugin
The plugin lives in the [locus-pro-plugin repository](https://github.com/locus-technologies/locus-pro-plugin).
> [tab] Claude Code CLI
>
> ```bash theme={null}
> /plugin marketplace add locus-technologies/locus-pro-plugin
> /plugin install locus@locus
> ```
>
> Run `/mcp`, select `locus`, and choose **Authenticate**.
> [tab] Claude Code app
>
> In Code, open **Customize → Plugins → Add plugin → Add marketplace → Add
> from a repository**. Choose `locus-technologies/locus-pro-plugin`, select
> **Sync**, then **Add Locus**.
>
> Authenticate the plugin from Terminal:
>
> ```bash theme={null}
> claude mcp login plugin:locus:locus
> ```
>
> Complete browser consent, then start a new Code session.
>
> If the login command says `plugin:locus:locus` is missing and
> `claude mcp get locus` reports a legacy **Local config**, remove the
> project entry, restart Code, and retry:
>
> ```bash theme={null}
> claude mcp remove locus -s local
> ```
> [tab] Codex CLI / app
>
> ```bash theme={null}
> codex plugin marketplace add locus-technologies/locus-pro-plugin
> codex plugin add locus@locus
> codex mcp login locus --scopes mcp:read,mcp:execute,offline_access
> ```
>
> Start a new CLI or desktop session after installation.
> [tab] Grok
>
> Review the plugin repository, then install:
>
> ```bash theme={null}
> grok plugin install locus-technologies/locus-pro-plugin --trust
> ```
>
> Grok opens browser sign-in when you first use the connection.
> [tab] Other plugin clients
>
> Other Agent Plugins clients can install the same bundle:
>
> ```bash theme={null}
> npx plugins add locus-technologies/locus-pro-plugin
> ```
* Keep one OAuth entry per client. If you added the server manually first, remove that entry.
* Update through your client's plugin manager, then start a fresh session. See the [release notes](https://github.com/locus-technologies/locus-pro-plugin/releases); marketplace listings may update later than GitHub.
* To connect with an [agent key](https://docs.paywithlocus.com/locus-pro/agent-keys.md) instead of OAuth, use the [manual configuration](https://docs.paywithlocus.com/locus-pro/agent-keys.md#agent-key-configuration).
## Set up with one prompt
For OpenClaw, Hermes, Muse, and Instinct, send this prompt in a new agent session:
```text theme={null}
Install Locus Pro by following https://paywithlocus.com/SKILL.md.
```
The installer picks an MCP or CLI adapter, installs the three skills, starts sign-in, and checks a free readiness operation. Complete any browser approval or restart it asks for.
```mermaid theme={null}
flowchart TD
  P["Your prompt"] --> I["Locus installer"]
  I --> A["MCP or CLI adapter"]
  I --> S["Three Locus skills"]
  I --> L["Sign-in"]
  L --> R["Free readiness check"]
```
You can also copy this prompt from **Connect → Set up**. **Copy prompt** asks how the agent will sign in:
* **In your browser**: the agent sends you a link to approve.
* **With an agent key**: Locus creates a 30-day [agent key](https://docs.paywithlocus.com/locus-pro/agent-keys.md) and puts it in the prompt. Use this for agents that run on their own. The agent saves the key and signs in to the [Locus CLI](https://docs.paywithlocus.com/locus-pro/cli.md) with it.
> [!WARNING]
>
> A prompt that holds an agent key is a secret. Send it only to the agent that
> will use it.
> [!NOTE]
>
> Hermes does not currently have a public plugin listing, and current OpenClaw
> does not import the MCP entry from its marketplace bundle. Use the one-prompt
> setup for both.
## Install only the skills
If you connected your client manually, add the skills on their own:
```bash title="Install the skills" theme={null}
npx skills add locus-technologies/locus-pro-plugin
```
Select `locus`, `locus-setup`, and `locus-workflows` when prompted. Skills still need an authenticated MCP connection. Clients without local skill support can load the same guides through MCP with `get_locus_guide`.
